TERMS OF SERVICE
Homeschool Family
PATH has a Mission! And a Statement of Faith! And a Code of Conduct! And Roles and Responsibilities!
In order to register your family, and individual students for classes, please read the below and agree to these things. (We know it's a lot, but since these clicks of agreement are now recognized as signatures legally, we can save all the paperwork, initialing, and signing. So it's still a lot less work than the paperwork!)
1 — MISSION
What is PATH all About?
PATH exists for the Body of Christ in the Rochester Area to come together and share talents, skills, and abilities with one purpose: To help parents in their education, preparation, and training-up of their middle or high school student. For some, that means "PSEO", which allows a high school student to attend college and earn credits. For others, that means a social connection for their students. As they rub shoulders with others their age in a Christ-centered environment, they can find their Peeps and grow together. Still, some parents are looking for specialization: They need help with finding that frog to dissect, and teaching subjects they may not excel in. And some are looking for additional discipleship: They like that PATH teaches from a Biblical perspective, has opportunities to learn the Bible, and calls their students into being fully engaged Christians in their churches and the world around us. And guess what? For many parents, it's all of the above!
What are PATH Peeps?
PATH Peeps is the name we give ourselves. Anyone who comes to PATH is a PATH Peep. Peep is short for "people". And "Peeps" is meant to convey "here at PATH, we hope you find your people." We hope that our environment helps you connect with others, make friends, and together grow in our faith so we can serve together, and help spread the love of Jesus together.
So what is the PATH Mission?
PATH comes alongside homeschooling parents to provide academic, social, and spiritual development, all under the banner of Jesus Christ for the purposes of preparing students to take their next steps. When you leave PATH, our prayer is you will be fueled to head to college, faithful to engage with the local and global church, all with well developed friendships that reflect the love of Jesus.
2 — STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, infallible, the supreme and final authority for all faith and life.
• We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
• We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His astonishing death, His bodily resurrection, and His imminent bodily return in power and glory.
• We believe man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost; only those who put their faith in Jesus Christ alone can be saved.
• We believe salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose substitutionary death on the cross paid for the penalty of man's sin.
• We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to indwell, guide, instruct, convict, comfort, prompt, lead into all truth, and empower the believer for godly living and service.
• We believe in the spiritual unity of believers through our common faith in Jesus Christ and that individual doctrinal differences which may exist should not hinder the unity of Christian home educators.
3 — ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitators
Parents are the main educators of their children. The role of our Facilitators is to aid in the student's learning experience by offering instruction in the Facilitator's area of expertise. All content taught will be within the framework of a Biblical worldview. Facilitators will provide a syllabus for each class they are Facilitating which will show what will be covered in the class along with homework assignments. Communication with parents regarding lesson plans and class material is to take place outside of class time. Facilitators will provide assignments for the subjects. Minimal class time will be spent taking tests. Some tests may be sent home for the parents to proctor. Facilitators will provide a point and/or percentile evaluation mid-semester and at the end of each semester. The parents then assign a letter grade as they see fit for the class. If a Facilitator needs to cancel one class, he/she will contact his/her students with necessary assignments for making up lessons. If a Facilitator is ill, every attempt will be made to provide a qualified substitute Facilitator. If a qualified substitute Facilitator is not provided, the Facilitator will communicate the assignments to each student.
In all cases, an attempt to find a substitute will be made. Facilitators are not required to reimburse families for one or two missed classes during a full academic year. Additional missed classes beyond two will result in a partial refund for the course as determined by the PATH director.
PARENTS
Parents are responsible for the supervision of coursework and final assignment of grades. It is expected that parents will review all work prior to submission, ensuring it is of high quality, as free as possible from errors, and on time. It is expected that parents will consult with their students regularly to ensure due dates are being met. Remember that PATH is providing Facilitation, not full oversight of your entire week academically. We rely on parents to ensure there is quality, understanding, and on-time submission of all work. Facilitators are not the full time teachers of your class, but there to provide structure, encouragement, and accountability. This includes ensuring their student is completing and turning in the homework assignments the Facilitator requires unless discussed with the Facilitator and providing any additional assistance necessary for the completion of the coursework. The parents and students are responsible to work with the Facilitator regarding any missed work or tests. Parents are responsible to have the students arrive on time.
Some parents will slowly turn over management of assignments, due dates, and course work to their students over time to prepare them for PSEO. This is recommended in the second semester of a student's 10th grade year and beyond, but not prior. Every student is different, and we understand that. Facilitators will reach out to parents immediately if there are issues with turning in work, work quality, or focus/concentration or behavior issues in class.
Parents will also serve as parent monitors up to three days during the school year to assist with requirements from our facility in terms of monitoring student safety. A volunteer link will be sent out in the summer months.
STUDENTS
Students are to arrive promptly and be prepared for class. Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start time as we keep a tight schedule at PATH. Students are to complete the coursework at home so as not to prevent the Facilitator from maintaining the planned course of study. Students are to be attentive in class and understand that participation is a privilege, not a right. Students are required to sign and maintain the code of conduct. Students are to comply with each Facilitator's classroom expectations with the understanding that there will be variances between classes.
4 — Conflict Resolution
If there is a conflict at PATH, we will do our very best to follow the below procedure:
1st Offense:
• Student will be reminded of the expectation.
2nd Offense:
• Student will be sent to the on-site director for the remainder of the class period. Parents will be notified.
• Parent needs to respond by email to the Facilitator or on-site director that they are aware of the concern, have discussed appropriate behavior with their student, and are willing to make restitution or apologies if requested.
PROCESS FOR RESOLVING CONFLICT
First, an attempt to resolve an issue or policy/code violation should be made between individuals before coming to the director. The director will ask if you first attempted to address the issue with the individual and how before getting involved. If the director decides it's a policy/code violation, the following steps will be taken:
• Talk with individuals to see if it is resolved.
• If issue is unresolved, individuals meet with director to reach a resolution.
5 — Code of Conduct
This code of conduct is based on the premise that an atmosphere of respect and grace is most conducive to learning, therefore:
• Treatment of other people (fellow students, Facilitators, and church staff) must be respectful, meaning an attitude of valuing others and treating them with dignity. Students are expected to encourage & support one another. The uniqueness of each person is valued. Verbal or non-verbal communication that is considered inappropriate will be addressed. This includes degrading comments toward/about one another.
• This facility and all property, entrusted to us to use, will not be abused. No food or drinks, unless part of a designed class experience, are allowed. Use of the gym during free time is allowed, provided parents have signed the gym use agreement. Also, while we are holding class, church staff are working. We ask that at all times there be no loud voices or yelling, especially in the entrance area of the church. Students need to be in class or the study room while at PATH.
• Lunch Time | Food may only be eaten at the tables in the lunch room area (fellowship hall), on the gym floor, or outside on the lower level. Students may use the fridge, microwave, and stove in the kitchen or room 210. Students need to clean up after themselves, dispose of their trash, and accept responsibility for their personal possessions (bags, bottles, utensils, etc.). Do not leave these items behind on the tables. Take them to the entrance area and place them on the metal shelves above the coat rack.
• Class Transition | Students are expected to transfer from one classroom to another in an efficient and orderly manner, arriving at their designated classroom on time. Don't be late.
• Space/Study Room | It is important that we be within our designated space at Calvary E-Free Church. Facilitators and parent monitors are only responsible for monitoring students who remain within the designated spaces at our facility. If a student is discovered beyond the designated PATH space, the student is expected to willingly be brought to the director. Students are to be either in their classroom, the designated study room when not attending class, or in the general area we use. The study room is provided for the student's use when he/she is not attending a specific class (open class period). Reasonable conversational noise levels are expected, as the study room is provided not only for socializing but also for study. The monitor will assist the students in maintaining an appropriate noise level.
• Technology/Gaming — Cell phones are to be used for communication purposes only. PATH is a time for humans to connect with other humans, and we value face to face communication, physical activity, and academics during your time at PATH. Therefore please do not bring any gaming systems to PATH, and use your cell phones for communication with your parents only, when necessary. Cell phones are not permitted in the PATH classroom at any time, nor are any related devices unless assigned by your instructor. Collaborative use of social media is prohibited at PATH.
It is recognized that students are on social media, and connections will be made with each other outside of PATH. PATH recommends parents monitor their child's social media and text messaging to ensure they are being respectful, safe, and mature.
• Each student is accountable for his/her own actions, including physical actions. Wrestling (including arm wrestling), lifting, punching, kicking, bumping, and tickling are not allowed. Also, no inappropriate PDAs (physical displays of affection) are allowed.
• Each student is responsible for his/her own possessions.
• Each student's dress needs to be God-honoring, modest, and not a distraction to the opposite sex; therefore, these guidelines: no spaghetti strap shirts or low-cut tops, no bare midriffs (even while bending or stretching), no see-through materials. The minimum length of skirts, shorts, and tops worn over leg apparel (i.e. leggings) is 3 inches above the knee. Provision for infraction: A t-shirt will be provided so that it is possible to still attend class.
• No bouncing, kicking, or throwing of basketballs, soccer balls, or footballs in the church, except for in the Gym.
• It is important that every parent and student understand their responsibilities related to assigned work in class. As the official teacher, Parents are expected to ensure their students are completing work in a timely manner. Students are responsible to complete work and hand it in, take notes in class, and be up to speed in terms of everything related to their responsibilities.
The over-arching expectation is one of respect. It is important for students to learn that they respect their Facilitators and classmates when they are prepared for the day. They are "prepared for the day" when they have all of their work turned in. On the other hand, Facilitators and fellow students are disrespected when work is turned in late, or they are not prepared for the day. Perhaps the Facilitator was planning a discussion on a certain chapter, or is expecting to move on from a particular concept or topic. When students are routinely not prepared, they take up the valuable and very limited in-class time. It also is taxing on the Facilitators to have to continually remind students to get their work in on time.
One of PATH's main missions is to prepare students for PSEO, where professors are less forgiving of late work or excuses.
We realize that challenging life events do happen, and we have a lot of grace for all. However we also know the best way to show love to students is to not only demonstrate that through warmth and belonging, but also to expect the best performance out of each person.
Facilitators will give a zero grade for work that is not turned in. In the event that students miss work, the following steps will be taken:
1. After the first missed assignment, parents will receive a note from the Facilitator in an effort to bring the student into alignment with the class. We don't want any students continually behind, as it affects their long term success, and impacts classroom discussions.
2. After the second missed assignment in a row, parents will receive another note and request for a meeting before or after class on the PATH day. Mr. Johnson will be present as well to help understand the full situation.
3. If there is a situation where three or more substantial assignments have been missed in a semester, it may be time to explore alternative means of accomplishing a year of homeschooling. PATH may indeed begin to introduce more structure and accountability into a young person's life than they are ready for. Students who are continually forgetting homework, not doing assignments, not reading assigned work, or not prepared for class do make it more difficult for the Facilitators, and as stated above also impact the ethos of the classroom setting. We have so little time in an actual classroom, we really want everyone prepared and ready to go when we are together.

It is understood that this authorization is given in advance of any specific diagnosis or required treatment and is given to encourage said hospital and said physicians to exercise their best judgment as to the requirements of such diagnosis and treatment in those instances when a parent of the minor is unavailable to provide the necessary consent to treatment. This applies to any child registered within this process for the duration of 1 year from the time of agreement or the full PATH academic year, whichever is greater.
